Hillside Prairie Sanctuary property is Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance’s newest sanctuary! Join us for a special opportunity to explore its 348 acres during our Open House Days. This is a wonderful property near Cambridge, Wisconsin that been a working farm for 200 years. For the last three decades, the property was a hay farm, with delayed haying to allow nesting birds to fledge. As a result, the property has a wonderful abundance of Bobolinks and other grassland birds.

ACTIVITIVES:
Between 7am and 7pm, we will have a SoWBA staff person on site to welcome you, give you a map, suggest a few hiking trails to explore independently, and answer your questions.
Wagon tours will be held both days at 9 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, 2 PM, and 3 PM.
Staff and volunteers will also be tagging migrating monarch butterflies during the event, weather permitting—visitors 10 years of age or older are invited to participate either day from 10 AM to 12 PM or from 1 PM to 3 PM.
In addition, a history of the Gunnulson family is on display at the nearby Cambridge Historic School Museum (211 South St, Cambridge), which will be open from 10 AM to 3 PM on Thursday, September 18 and Saturday, September 20 for visitors.
ACCESSIBILITY:
An outdoor, electric-powered wheelchair will be on site and available for you to use on a first-come, first-served basis.
Wagon tours are designed to allow you access to the prairie while seated on bench-style seats in a large, covered metal wagon pulled by a truck. There is space and a ramp for a wheelchair on this wagon.
Two ADA porta-potties are available on site during the event, one at each meeting point location (parking lot and near monarch tagging activity).
The parking lot is small but gravel and level. Space will be reserved in the parking lot for one handicap vehicle.
