Learning the Ropes of eBird (ONLINE)

Learning the Ropes of eBird: Tracking your bird observations online

We’re sorry, this class is now full. If you’d like to get on the waiting list, please scroll down to the bottom of this page to sign up.

eBird can be a phenomenal resource for birders. This workshop will focus on getting you comfortable using the eBird website so you can benefit from the wealth of bird observation information in our area, track and share your birding checklists, and note what you see in the field.

In response to the COVID-19 situation, this class has been reformatted to an ONLINE setting, with two fantastic parts! Attendees can participate in both parts from home.

  1. Our instructor, Kyle Lindemer (excellent birder and an avid eBird user and reviewer), will record a tutorial on how to use eBird. You will be able to pause, rewind, test it out in your web browser, and continue at your leisure. Folks who register for the class will receive the link to the tutorial on Monday, March 23.

  2. Then on Saturday, March 28, 10-11am, class attendees can join a Zoom Q&A session to get Kyle’s help in using the website and troubleshooting. Zoom is a web-based program that allows people from many locations to all participate in a video chat room. Registered participants will receive the link to attend via their computer or phone. Kyle will be able to share his screen to show you the answer to your questions.

Class attendees will need a computer, tablet, or laptop, internet connection, and to be familiar with using a web browser like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc. A webcam and microphone are preferred, but not required.

Registration info: Registration is limited to 25 people participating in the Zoom Q&A session. Registration is free, but an optional donation to support this work is appreciated! Fill out the form below to register.

This class is part of Madison Audubon’s adult education series called the Audubon Naturalist Series. Many of the classes offer early registration for Madison Audubon members, but most also open for public registration if there are spots left in the class. Interested in joining Madison Audubon?
