Volunteers of our Kestrel Nest Box Monitoring, Bald Eagle Nest Watch, and Bird Collision Corps volunteers are welcome to join the waiting list.
Purple Martins are a wonderfully charismatic and interesting bird, and we are lucky to be able to see them here in Wisconsin each summer! These amazing birds have learned that by nesting near humans, they benefit from their “landlords” taking care of their nest boxes and providing protection from predators.
This summer, we will once again join in Dick Nickolai’s efforts to band Purple Martins in the effort to better understand their migration, ecology, and population trends. We will bring small groups of volunteers to select farms in northern Columbia County and Marquette County to help in the process.

We will meet at Goose Pond Sanctuary and drive to the banding sites from there. If you are COVID-19 vaccinated and feel comfortable carpooling, we recommend you do so to minimize gas use.
This is a working field trip, so be prepared to help handle the birds and learn a lot! We will provide instructions.
Right now, registration is open to volunteers of the Kestrel Nest Box Monitoring Program, Bald Eagle Nest Watch, and Bird Collision Corps.
Space is limited to 6 volunteers per sessions, and sessions include Tuesday morning and afternoon, and Wednesday morning and afternoon.
