Build a 5-plant native garden for your balcony, patio or porch to bolster birds, bees and butterflies!

Join Eric Manges of Eric Manges Nature (check out his recent blog post about porch prairies!), SOS Save Our Songbirds, and Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance at the WYSO Center for Music in Madison for a presentation about growing native plants in any location — including a small balcony or front porch — and how that container of native plants can support wildlife. Then, head outside for a hands-on activity of planting your own container to take home, each container having one of the following: Wild petunia, purple hyssop, spotted bee balm, prairie dropseed, and butterfly milkweed.
No yard? No problem! This event is designed for individuals who want to help wildlife from their balcony or porch. Have a yard? That’s great! You’re welcome and invited to participate too!
The presentation, plants, and potting soil are included in the cost of the workshop. You can bring your own container (#5 size, which is approx. 11” wide and 11” tall) or pay $5 for us to provide a container for you (shown here).
