  • Dodgveille, WI area Dodgeville, WI United States (map)

June 8, 8am-11am, Dodgeville WI area

Registration is open to Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance members at this time.
Any remaining spots will open to the public on June 5.

Experience the amazing American Kestrel close up! We will visit two kestrel nest boxes in our Kestrel Nest Box Monitoring & Banding Program, open them up, and place research bands on the chicks' legs. It doesn't harm the birds, and allows scientists to study things like nesting preferences, migration, etc. Plus, it is really, really fun!

Adults are $25/person. Children must be at least 10 years old to participate, must be accompanied by an adult, and are $10/child.

Participants must review our Kestrel Banding Visitor and Photography Policy and agree to its terms in order to participate. This ensures the safety of the birds and participants.

To attend, participants should be able to walk on uneven terrain. We will walk through grasslands and ditches where ticks and other insects live.

Day-of details:

  • We will meet at the Verona Park & Ride at 8AM for carpool and instructions.

  • The two boxes we visit are approximately 5 minutes apart. It will take about 20-30 minutes to band chicks at each box.

  • Boxes are near the parking area, though expect minimal walking on uneven terrain in grasslands and ditches.

  • We expect to be back at the Verona Park & Ride by 11AM.
