CANCELED: Woodcock and Snipe Walk

  • Faville Grove Sanctuary W7480 Prairie Lane Lake Mills, WI, 53551 United States (map)

We’re sorry, this field trip is canceled due to concerns around COVID-19.

However, we still would love for you to enjoy the joy of birding! To recreate this field trip’s experience, here are the locations the field trip leaders visiting Faville Grove Sanctuary any evening around dusk in March and April to look for the birds.

We suggest either of two locations for woodcocks: along North Shore Road appx 1/4 mile or so south of Highway 89 where the landscape on both sides of the road is open prairie/grasslands; or along Prairie Lane a hundred yards or so east of the sanctuary parking area. Wilson’s snipes are also likely to be heard winnowing at the Prairie Lane location.

Check out these links to get a preview to what you are likely to hear and/or see if you’re lucky enough to get a first-hand look:

Meet at the kiosk along Prairie Lane for an evening spent enjoying delightful spring displays of woodcock and snipe. Be prepared to be dazzled by the woodcock’s flight, and to learn about the natural history of one of Aldo Leopold’s favorite birds. Binoculars are recommended.
