Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance has some of the largest restored prairies in Wisconsin. Our Goose Pond Sanctuary, located near Arlington, is a major part of SoWBA's restoration efforts... but our restoration work is only possible with the help of volunteers!
Volunteers are needed to help collect prairie seed. Native seed collection saves the genetics of plants that thrive in our local ecosystem, and are then used to restore other areas. We plan to do lots of planting this fall, and there is a lot of prairie seed to collect — your help would be greatly appreciated in creating these seed mixes!
Seed collecting at Goose Pond Sanctuary occurs each Saturday, 9:30-12:00 from Sept. 14-Nov. 2. RSVP info below.
No experience is needed, and families are welcome! Please wear long pants, sturdy shoes, and bring water to drink. The meeting location varies each week. RSVP is required to Graham Steinhauer, Goose Pond Land Steward, at gsteinhauer@swibirds.org or 608-333-2947, to get involved. Graham will email a few days beforehand to indicate the meeting location, and any adjustments needed for weather.
