Prescribed Fire Workshop - Fire Ecology and Field Instruction

Registration is now open!

This training is designed for people with little to no prescribed fire training and experience who would like to volunteer on prescribed burns. It is also an opportunity to learn why fire is an integral part of Wisconsin’s natural communities. Prior to attending, participants must watch an introduction to Prescribed Fire video; there will be a review of the video followed by tools/equipment stations and live fire exercises. Participants must attend all parts of the training and volunteer on one burn to receive a certificate of completion.

Class attendees should bring their own required personal protective equipment (PPE): leather boots, leather gloves, non-plastic clothing, and a water bottle. Nomex jumpsuits, safety glasses, and water refills will be provided. Leather gloves are available to borrow, but please bring your own if you have them as supplies are limited.

Class attendees must be 18 years old or older and in good physical condition.

Registration is capped at 20 people, and will open on Jan. 27. Cost for registration is $25/person (scholarships are available, please email Brenna at bmarsicek@swibirds.org for more information).
