Bald Eagles have staged a remarkable comeback throughout the Midwest in the past 40 years. However, eagles continue to face a variety of challenges in Wisconsin. This presentation will review eagle nesting surveys in southwestern Wisconsin, causes of mortality, and a study using eagles as an indicator of environmental contaminants. Photos of Wisconsin eagle nests will illustrate research techniques, eaglet development, prey items and nest site characteristics.
