Art on the Prairie: Techniques for drawing the natural world

If you've longed to have a sketchbook full of nature drawings and observations from your wanderings, this class is for you! Artist and scientist Carolyn Byers will teach you basic drawing skills (accurate perspective, breaking down the objecting into basic shapes, building detail, composition), how to experiment with the amount of details you add to your drawing, ways of using different media in nature art (pros and cons of pencil, ink, watercolor, and colored pencil), and how to notice details you might not have seen before. All of this will take place at beautiful Faville Grove Sanctuary. We will be working outside for the duration of class. Please dress for the weather and bring a sun hat and plenty of water.

We will provide some supplies for participants to borrow: drawing pencils, clipboards, and erasers. We will also have drawing paper for you to use and keep. Please bring any other art supplies you enjoy working with or would like more practice with.
