Drawing Wildlife: Techniques for Drawing Living, Moving Wildlife
Artist, scientist, and educator Carolyn Byers will teach you basic drawing skills (accurate perspective, braking down the animal into basic shapes, building detail, composition), how to experiment with the amount of detail you add to your drawing, and how to notice details you might not have seen before. We’ll also practice skills specific to drawing-from-life: quick gesture sketches, building up several sketches at once as the animal moves around, focusing on what to draw immediately, and what details to add in later.
We will be working outside for the duration of the class. Please dress for the weather and bring a sun hat and plenty of water. You may also want a collapsible lawn char. A rain date is set for Monday, Sept. 30.
We will provide some supplies for participants to borrow: drawing pencils, clipboards, and erasers. We will also have drawing paper for you to use and keep. Please bring any other art supplies you enjoy working with or would like more practice with.
