We want your help - more specifically, your IDEAS. If you’re anxiously wondering about the fate of our environment, you’re not alone. The end of 2016 and beginning of 2017 have brought a lot of changes that may have significant impacts on the quality and amount of native and natural habitat in Wisconsin and beyond, not to mention environmental education for students across levels and demographics.
Madison Audubon is committed to our mission of working to protect and improve habitat for birds and other wildlife through land acquisition and management, education, and advocacy. And right now we have an opportunity to ensure that our tactics, in light of these national- and state-level changes, align with those goals.
We want to hear from you! Many of you have been Madison Audubon members for years, even decades, and know us well. Some of you joined us as recently as today, for a variety of reasons but hopefully including an impassioned zeal for protecting our shared environment.
Please join us for an evening of real, empowered dialog about how Madison Audubon can meet the challenges of the future in the most effective way possible. This is an opportunity for any and all of our members to share ideas and to work together with our staff to help make some of these ideas possible. New members or veterans, we welcome input from all! This is not a fundraising event, and we will not ask you for money. This is a brainstorming event, and we will most definitely ask you for ideas!
The Listening Session will be Wednesday, April 5 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Lussier Family Heritage Center in Lake Farm County Park. Appetizers and drinks will be provided. Please RSVP by Friday, March 31 so we can estimate the number of attendees.

Possible Agenda for the Listening Session:
1. Welcome and introductions to Madison Audubon Society
2. Presentation of the topics to address: what do we face?
a. Land Protection:
i. What is important to people in land protection?
ii. How do we face the challenge of the erosion/loss of the Knowles-
Nelson Stewardship Program?
b. Education:
i. How do we respond to the silencing of climate change as a topic? Do
we keep our focus on kids?
ii. Our education program is unique and very effective. How can we
grow it to meet conservation needs (and demand)?
iii. Are people interested in more continuing education opportunities?
How could we provide them?
c. Advocacy:
i. How does our local chapter address the pressing advocacy issues that
now exist at the executive, legislative, and administrative levels of
federal and state government?
ii. How can we empower our members to advocate on behalf of birds?
3. General discussion of these topics
4. Breakout sessions to dive deeper
5. Next steps and wrap up

Directions to Lussier Family Heritage Center
From the Madison Beltline (Hwy 12/18) take exit 264 for West Broadway and head south (toward WalMart). Continue straight for 0.75 mile (through a roundabout and past the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District building) and turn left on Moorland Rd/Lake Farm Rd. In about 0.7 miles there will be an entrance driveway to Lussier on your left. Follow the signs to the parking lot to your left once you turn in.
