A Safer Migration: Reducing Songbird Collisions with Windows

  • Monona Public Library 1000 Nichols Road Madison, WI, 53716 United States (map)

Join Monona Public Library staff and community members for a free presentation on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 6:00pm.

Over a billion birds die every year in the US after hitting windows, and almost half of those happen at homes. The good news is that the solutions are affordable and easy to implement! This presentation will share some of the science behind why birds hit windows and will also provide recommendations on ways to address problematic windows at homes and in our communities to make migration and buildings safer for birds.

In this presentation you will also hear about the Bird Collision Corps citizen science program, which studies where birds are hitting windows at large buildings in the Madison area. Monona Public Library has participated in this program since 2022, and results of the study at the site will be shared. Learn more about what local volunteers are doing to research and find solutions to this problem in our community.

This presentation is by Brenna Marsicek, director of outreach with Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance and coordinator of the Bird Collision Corps, and Ellie Meng, student at Monona Grove High School, Girl Scout, and BCC volunteer.
