Chimney Swifts: 2026 Counts

This year was one of the best years for watching Chimney Swifts come in to roost that I can remember. From late August until mid-September, swifts were using the big chimney at Cherokee Heights Middle School in huge numbers—as high as 2,100 on August 28!

American Kestrels, North America’s smallest falcon, have faced a population decline of over 60% in the last 60 years. With an increased removal of nesting habitat came an increased need for them to rely on provided housing like nest boxes.
