With marsh and pond habitats and frequently good mud flats, this is an interesting and overlooked birding spot to search for shorebirds, birds of prey, and songbirds. Typical species in May are Greater & Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpiper, Dunlin, Least Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover, White-rumpled Sandpiper, Rusty Blackbird, Sandhill Cranes, and resident waterfowl and swallows. But rare birds might show up: in years past, there has been a Little Gull, Tri-colored Heron, and Whimbrel.
Meet at the E-Way parking lot along the Capital City Bike Trail on Moorland Road. Loose and packed gravel trails are generally level but may be muddy from recent rains. Dress for weather.
